For most, teaching is a new endeavor. Breakthrough is a great opportunity to explore teaching in an environment with small class sizes, high energy, and spirit.
Under the direction of experienced educators who will provide support with lesson planning and classroom observations, teachers lead every aspect of the program, from curriculum implementation to lunch supervision to creating lesson plans and grading papers. Teachers work hard but also make strong connections with students, function as positive role models and mentors, and demonstrate by example that it’s “cool to be smart”.
Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano teachers are bright, energetic, and driven high school and college students. They come from diverse academic and personal backgrounds, but share a strong commitment to learning the art of teaching, to closing the achievement gap, and to making a real and lasting impact on their students.
Teaching at Breakthrough has been consistently ranked by Princeton Review as one of the Top Ten Internships in the US, along with working at the White House and the Supreme Court. As a result of the challenging and rewarding nature of teaching at Breakthrough, we are routinely able to secure high caliber teachers from some of the best colleges and high schools across the nation.
