Megan Moilanen
High School Coordinator
Megan Moilanen joined Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano in 2008 as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher. She was welcomed back into the St. Margaret’s community in February 2010 as the coordinator of Breakthrough’s High School Program and as a History teacher in the Upper School. At the end of the 2010 school year, BTSJC enrolled 8th graders in a third summer of programming called “College Bound”.The mission of the College Bound summer is to provide valuable educational experiences that will act as a bridge to transition the outgoing 8th grade Breakthrough students successfully into their freshman year of high school through targeted remediation and enrichment. The program is a comprehensive five day a week, full day of academic, volunteer, and extracurricular activities. Megan serves the High School Program in a part-time role during the school year. She works to connect the high school students to tutoring, college counseling, and academic advising.

Maggie Griffiths
Assistant Director
English Mentor Teacher
Maggie Griffiths is the English Mentor teacher this summer. She is returning to Breakthrough SJC for the first time since 2007, when she was a seventh-grade English teacher. Her truly transformative summer with Breakthrough led her to join Teach For America as a 2008 Los Angeles corps member, and she has been teaching tenth-grade history in South L.A ever since. In 2010, she earned her M.A in Educational Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University. She decided to return to Breakthrough this summer because she truly believes that this program functions as a platform for addressing the educational inequities that are far too prevalent throughout California. Breakthrough is the reason that Maggie made education her life’s work, and she hopes that some of our teachers this year are similarly energized by this program!
