Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano was officially launched following the start of the inaugural summer session on June 26, 2006.  Twenty-two rising seventh graders from Marco Forster Middle School are the first Breakthrough students to participate in the first year of the program.  Twenty of the first twenty-two students reside in San Juan Capistrano.  Under the leadership of former director, Diosa Adams, six Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano faculty and 22 students launched the program in 2006.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal School (SMES) is the host site and sponsor of Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano in partnership with the City of San Juan Capistrano and Marco Forster Middle School. Although SMES is the host and Breakthrough classes will take place on our campus, this is a tuition-free program that will not be funded through the school’s regular operating budget.

We are seeking underwriting support for Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano from local businesses, corporations and foundations. The Breakthrough program here in San Juan Capistrano is supporting 71 students from Marco Forster and will require a projected annual operating budget of $250,000. Ultimately, it is our goal to fully endow the program.

Please consider joining us as a sponsor. If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact director, Lorena Martinez, at (949) 661-0108, ext. 322.
